About Bonica

Bonica Snapper 1080P HDDV gear: the full dive package with bag, a replacement camera, the 55 m polycarbonate housing, a spare battery and housing spares, plus the G8V15 1500 lumen video light set. The Snapper system puts its camera inside a silicone skin and then a housing, so there are two seals between it and the water. Bonica in South Africa

Bonica's Snapper is a simple first dive camera built around double protection: the camera sits in a waterproof silicone skin rated to 3.5 m, and that goes inside a polycarbonate housing rated to 55 m. Most of what we carry is either the full system or the parts that keep an existing one diving. See every brand in underwater photography.

Starting out

The Snapper 1080P HDDV Dive Package with Bag is the complete kit: camera, skin, housing and bag. Video records at 1440 x 1080 at 30 frames per second or 1280 x 720 at 60, stills reach 8 MP, and a 3x optical zoom and 5 to 30 cm macro mode cover reef scenes and small subjects. The skin alone is fine for snorkelling or the pool. It suits a newer diver who wants video without a complicated rig. See camera combos.

Keeping a Snapper going

Replace only the part that's failed. The Snapper 1080P HDDV Replacement Camera fits your existing skin and housing. The Snapper HDDV Replacement Housing replaces a cracked or scratched outer case. The Snapper HDDV Battery is worth having as a spare for a two-dive boat day; change it with the housing open on a dry deck. The Snapper HDDV Housing Spares cover the LCD visor, the tabbed attachment bracket and the bayonet adaptor for 46 mm wet lenses. Housings from before April 2011 need the tabbed bracket before the adaptor will fit.

Adding light

Colour fades fast below the first few metres. The G8V15 1500 Lumen Video Light Set spreads a 60 degree beam, dims from 100% to 10%, runs on eight AA NiMH cells and comes with a tray and arm, rated to 55 m. See video lights.

Questions we get asked

How deep can the Bonica Snapper go?

The polycarbonate housing is rated to 55 m. On its own, the silicone skin is rated to 3.5 m, which covers snorkelling and pool sessions.

Why does the Snapper have a skin and a housing?

It's a second seal. If the outer housing ever leaks, the skin is still sealed around the camera.

Can I replace just the camera or housing?

Yes. The replacement camera fits the existing skin and housing, and the replacement housing takes the camera still in its skin.

How long does a Snapper battery last?

Bonica's reference figures give roughly 70 minutes of 720p recording per charge, depending on the battery's age. A charged spare covers a two-dive day.

Can I add a wet lens to my Snapper housing?

Yes, with the bayonet adaptor, which takes 46 mm threaded lenses. Housings shipped before April 2011 need the tabbed attachment bracket first; both are in the housing spares.
