Tovatec was founded in 1995 on Hawaii's North Shore and has offices in Honolulu and Los Angeles. The brand says it introduced the first dive light in aircraft-grade aluminium in 2001. It makes dive lights and accessories, including the MERA, a dive light with a built-in camera, which we don't carry. Here's how to choose within our range.
Fusion 2200 or Fusion 1550
Both Fusion lights have a lens that slides from a 12 degree spot to a 100 degree flood, 50 and 30 per cent power settings and an emergency strobe. The spot cuts through the dark on a night dive or inside a wreck; the flood lights a reef for video. The Fusion 2200 Dive Light puts out 2000 lumens and is the primary light, and its battery cradle adapter lets it run on AA alkaline batteries on a trip where charging is unreliable. The Fusion 1550 Dive Light gives 1500 lumens in a size that fits a BCD pocket, so it works as a backup that's bright enough to lead a night dive. Its 18650 battery runs for about an hour, and it also takes three AAA alkaline batteries.
Mounting a light
Light from the side keeps floating particles out of a photo. The Flex Arm bends to aim a light without loosening clamps, in 18 cm for a compact rig or 30 cm for wider scenes. The Torch Adapter Mini fixes the Tovatec IMINI torch to a Flex Arm, and it fits only the IMINI. The Face Mask Adapter is a pack of two that mounts a light on your mask strap for hands-free work, such as running a reel or sending up an SMB at night. Turn your head away when you signal a buddy, so you don't shine it in their eyes.
MERA filters
The Optical Filter System for Mera is for MERA owners: two optical grade filters, one for blue water and one for green water such as quarries and lakes, to bring the reds back into footage.
