Description

Getting a buddy's attention underwater usually means banging a tank with a knife, which is hard on the cylinder and useless if hands are full. A shaker does it properly: this hand-held beeper uses a special internal magnetic ball system, operated with a firm downward movement of the hand, producing a sound that carries to other divers. Being magnetic rather than mechanical means there is nothing to flood and no battery to fail. It is small and light enough to be stowed in a buoy or clipped away until needed, which is the reason it actually gets carried, and a safety lanyard stops it being dropped when it is used in a hurry. That answers pointing out an animal to a buddy, regrouping a scattered team and signalling a problem before it becomes one. It suits a diver, guide or instructor who needs to be heard underwater.
