Reef Pointer Stick

Description

Most divers buy a pointer to point with and then find the scale on the shaft is the part they actually use. Markings run from 1 to 10 centimetres along an aluminium shaft, which turns a nudibranch or a shrimp from a guess into a measurement worth writing in a logbook. The same stick taps against a cylinder to call a buddy over without shouting through a regulator, and its tip rests on bare rock to hold a camera still through a slow macro exposure. Aluminium keeps it stiff under a hand and light enough to hang from a wrist for a full dive, while the coiled lanyard stops it swinging into the reef when it is let go. One point set on dead substrate does far less harm than a hand and a knee put down to steady the same shot. It suits a photographer, a marine life spotter or any diver working close in.
