Cressi Origin Steel Spring Strap

Description

Rubber straps perish, elastic straps stretch, and both eventually let go. A steel spring does neither: it holds a constant tension for the life of the fin and is pulled on and off by the heel loop in one movement, which is why spring straps have become standard on technical rigs where a strap failure at depth is not an inconvenience. This is the Origin steel spring strap, offered in three lengths, 190 mm, 215 mm and 240 mm, so the tension can be matched to the fin and to the thickness of boot being worn rather than compromised. Getting that length right is the whole job: too short and the fin is hard to don in gloves, too long and the heel lifts on the kick. It is finished in black. That answers a drysuit boot in winter, a bare bootie in summer and a strap that has already failed once. It suits a diver replacing rubber straps with springs.
