Miflex in South Africa

Miflex makes braided hoses in Villasanta, Italy, for household appliances, HVAC, plumbing and diving, and shows ISO 9001 certification on its site. Its dive hoses swap a rubber core for polyether-based polyurethane, which makes them lighter and more flexible. Which line to choose comes down to feel.

XTR: light and flexible

The XTR LP Regulator Hose has a nylon braid over the polyurethane core, so the second stage follows your head instead of pulling at your jaw. It comes in nine colours and lengths from 10 cm to 2.10 m, handy for telling a primary from a backup at a glance. The XTR Inflator Hose matches it, from 0.20 m for sidemount to 0.90 m for a drysuit valve.

XT-Tech: the smooth, settled one

The XT-Tech LP Regulator Hose adds a Kevlar-reinforced polyester braid under a smooth thermoplastic skin. It isn't positively buoyant, so a 2.10 m long hose stays behind the neck rather than floating into a loop, and the smooth surface is kinder to a drysuit neck seal at a cold quarry. The XT-Tech Inflator Hose matches it in four lengths from 0.56 m to 0.90 m. See BCD hoses and technical BCD spares.

Carbon HD: high pressure

The Carbon HD HP Hose is for the gauge. It's stiffer and tougher than Miflex's lighter range, under 8 mm across, rated to 300 bar working pressure, with strain relief at each fitting, which suits rental kit and dives with contact on steel or rock. See SPG hoses.

The LP hoses are rated for air and nitrox up to 40% oxygen. Miflex advises replacing the XTR after five years, and all hoses should be fitted by a qualified technician. See regulator hoses.

Questions we get asked

In Villasanta, near Milan in Italy. Miflex says every XTR hose is leak-tested on its automatic production line before it ships.

XTR or XT-Tech: which Miflex hose is right for me?

XTR is the lightest and most flexible, in nine colours. XT-Tech has a smooth skin over a Kevlar-reinforced braid and isn't positively buoyant, so it sits like rubber. Miflex designed it for technical divers.

Can I use Miflex hoses with nitrox?

The XTR and XT-Tech LP hoses are rated for air and nitrox up to 40% oxygen.

How often should I replace a Miflex hose?
