Description
A float boingi is the shock absorber in a float rig, stretching when a fish runs so the load builds gradually rather than snapping onto the gun and float. Free Divers make their float boingi in three lengths: 1m, 3m and 5m. The 1m length suits a compact rig on a shallow reef where less stretch is needed. A 3m boingi gives a good balance for most boat and shore diving. The 5m version adds plenty of give for blue-water hunting, where a big fish can make a long first run. Clipped between the float line and the float, it also eases the strain on the diver when the float is towed through surge. It suits a spearfisher rigging a float line who wants shock absorption built in.
