Description

A nylon weight belt set correctly at the surface is loose at ten metres, because the wetsuit under it compresses and the abdomen draws in. That is a nuisance for a diver and a genuine problem for a freediver, who cannot keep re-cinching a belt on the way down. The Malta is rubber, and stretch is the whole point: the belt tightens automatically as the suit thins under pressure, so it stays snug against the diver in every phase of the dive rather than sliding towards the chest. The buckle is quick-release stainless steel for instinctive, rapid emergency release, with a pin that passes right through and is riveted at both ends. Stainless is the right specification for a part that lives in salt water and must work first time. It is finished in black. That answers a freedive, a deep descent and any dive in a thick suit. It suits a freediver or spearfisher whose belt loosens on descent.
