Kinzi in South Africa
Kinzi makes stainless steel hardware in Thailand, from a factory near Bangkok, and says it has been doing so since 1971. It works by investment casting, machining and forging, in 304, 316 and Duplex stainless, with ISO 9001:2015 certification. The company also makes architectural and lifting hardware; we carry its marine fittings, all in boat hardware and deck fittings.
Check the grade
Many of our Kinzi items are AISI 316, the usual choice around salt water. Some, such as the Eye Bolt 12 x 50 mm, are listed by the maker as AISI 304 or 316. 304 suits fresh water or dry lockers better than a permanently wet deck, so confirm the grade with us before ordering for salt water. Each product page shows what the maker lists.
Shackles
The D-Shackle is the everyday connector for a line, strap or fitting. The Anchor Bow Shackle has a rounder body that takes a load from more than one direction, used to join an anchor to its chain. The long D, twist and collared-pin D shackles cover tighter or neater joins. For a sail or line that must release under load, the Snap Shackle with Cast Swivel Eye opens by hand and swivels so the line doesn't twist. Mouse a shackle pin with wire or a cable tie wherever it mustn't undo.
Hooks and links
Snap hooks clip on and off with one hand, for a fender line, a tethered dry bag or a dive flag. Kinzi offers spring snap hooks with circular, angled and plain eye ends, a forged snap hook and a snap hook with eye. Where a hook must not open by accident, use the Double Locking Safety Hook. The Pelican Hook closes lifeline gates and releases under tension, the clevis-end grab hook grips a single chain link, and the Quick Link 8 mm screws shut to join chain or rope eyes.
Rigging and wire
A rigging screw, or turnbuckle, tensions a stay or lifeline. Choose the Rigging Screw Jaw to Jaw for pinned fittings or the hook to eye version when one end should clip on. To make an eye in wire rope, fit a light thimble inside the loop and clamp it with wire rope clips.
Deck fixings
The Rope Cleat 114 mm is a cast cleat for mooring and making off lines. For fixed attachment points, there's the Diamond Cast Pad, wire eye straps, a U-bolt with backing plate and an eye bolt with double washer and nut, which spread the load when through-bolted. The lifting eye nut, welded round ring and door hook finish the range. Use a backing plate or large washer on thin decks, and bed fittings with a marine sealant.
Questions we get asked
Is Kinzi hardware 316 stainless steel?
Many of our Kinzi items are AISI 316, but some are listed by the maker as AISI 304 or 316. Check each product page and confirm the grade with us before ordering, and choose 316 for anything that stays wet with salt water.
What is the difference between a D shackle and a bow shackle?
A D shackle is narrower and suits a load in a straight line. A bow shackle has a rounder body that copes with loads from more than one direction, which is why it's used to join an anchor to its chain.
Which Kinzi hook won't open by accident?
The Double Locking Safety Hook has a gate with two locking actions, so it can't be opened by accident if a line is dragged across it or the load shifts.
What does a rigging screw do?
A rigging screw, also called a turnbuckle, tensions a stay, lifeline or tie when you turn its centre body, so you can fine-tune the tension without re-rigging.
Where is Kinzi hardware made?
Kinzi manufactures its stainless steel hardware in Thailand, at a factory near Bangkok.
