Description

A sealed battery means waiting on a charger between dives, which on a liveaboard is the difference between two night dives and one. The D860 takes a user-replaceable pack, so a spare covers the second dive, and it also charges directly through a port in the body when there is time. Three Cree high-power LEDs sit behind a 10 degree reflector giving 4200 lumens for 1 hour, 1500 for 4 hours 30 and 500 for 14 hours, at 24,000 candela carrying 310 metres on land, 6500K at a colour rendering index of 70 or better. The 7.4 volt pack holds 50.3 watt-hours across four 18650 cells and charges at 8.4 volts and 4 amps in about 3 hours 30. It weighs 773 grams, falling to 345 grams in water, on a Type III hard anodised A6061-T6 body rated to 150 metres. OrcaTorch have superseded it with the D920, which is brighter, longer-running and lighter, though the D860 remains available. It suits a diver wanting canister-class output from a handheld with a swappable pack.
